Midlothian sits where US-67 meets US-287, about 25 miles southwest of Dallas, on Blackland Prairie soil. There were 5,040 people here in 1990 and 7,480 in 2000. The 2020 count was 35,125. Three cement plants, Martin Marietta, Holcim and Ash Grove, along with the Gerdau steel mill, kept work in town through all of it, and the housing came in behind the jobs.
So the city holds two building eras that never really met. About 4% of Midlothian homes went up before 1960, most of them clustered around the original townsite. Another 32% went up in the 2000s, and the typical house here dates to 2004. Whole streets on the edge of town, Redden Farms among them, are newer still.
